About the project

Project

SRS contributed our specialist expertise to the Zoo’s tiger bridges by designing, fabricating and rigging four stainless steel rotating tiger doors (two at each end) which connect the three separate habitats providing the keepers with lots of options for managing the tigers and giving the tigers interesting and enriching experiences crossing above the visitor paths.

Each HDPE door is rotated from a separate remote pedestal (safely located outside the habitats) by a continuous loop of modern synthetic rope. The rope is run around a winch housed inside the pedestal, through a series of up to 8 pulleys, sheaths and turning blocks, all fully encapsulated within a steel conduit. The longest run is 21m with multiple changes of directions in all axis, a truly complex rigging set-up with only the best minds problem-solving the mechanism for functional and smooth operation.

Seeing the tigers above you is breathtaking and SRS is so proud to have contributed to the world-class new tiger habitat!
